The Self-Trust Behind Doing What You Don’t Enjoy
Apr 25, 2025
🐾 I love my dogs.
They’re my kids.
One came from the streets—feral, afraid, and fierce.
The other? Her puppy—born just before her rescue.
They’re the heart of my world.
They’ve taught me more about trust, patience, and persistence than almost anything else in the last 7 years.
We go to the park twice a day—not because it’s convenient (it’s not).
Not because it’s always joyful (it isn’t).
But because they love it.
Because I love them.
And because… well, neither of them will walk in the neighborhood. (One won’t turn left. The other won’t turn right. No, seriously.)
So, every day:
I load them into the car, drive to the park, and attempt what we loosely call “a walk.”
And every day… I kind of hate it.
They sniff everything.
Roll in things.
Refuse to walk at the same pace or in the same direction.
And I? Just want to move. Stretch. Walk.
But I’ve stopped trying to love the walk.
Because here’s the truth:
You don’t have to love every step of something to love what it creates.
I love that they get their car rides.
I love the park.
I love being the person who does what she doesn’t like in service of something she does.
And that?
That’s the same skill it takes to build a business.
To create change.
To commit to big goals.
To grow.
We’re so used to trying to enjoy the process that we forget— Sometimes the process isn’t enjoyable. But it’s still worth it.
Because we don’t do it just for ease or pleasure.
We do it for impact.
For who we want to be.
For what we want to make possible.
So I’m curious— What’s something you hate… but still do because it’s worth it?
Tell me below.
And if you’ve ever wondered whether disliking part of the process means you’re out of alignment?
👉 It doesn’t. It means you’re human.
And maybe?
It means you’re growing.
