You Don't Chase a Calling. You Claim It.

Dec 18, 2025

Maybe it's a book that won't leave you alone. A signature talk that's been living in your notes for over a year. A business idea that keeps tapping on your shoulder every time things get quiet.

And you've been telling yourself: "It's not going anywhere. I'll get to it eventually."

Here's the truth: eventually isn't a strategy. Eventually is often a way to avoid the fear of actually going for it.

Claiming vs. Chasing

There's a meaningful difference between chasing your next level and claiming it.

Chasing implies running after something that keeps moving away. It's reactive. It's exhausting. It assumes the thing you want has to be earned before it belongs to you.

Claiming is different. Claiming is deciding that this thing — this next evolution of your work, your message, your business — is already yours. And then becoming the version of you who brings it to life.

Claiming means seeing your idea not just as nice, but as necessary. Taking your vision seriously, even when you're the only one who can see it clearly right now. Building momentum before the world gives you permission.

Why We Don't Claim It Sooner

Let's name what actually gets in the way.

We've been trained to wait. For signs. For validation. For invitations. For guaranteed results before we begin. We tell ourselves we need more readiness, more certainty, a clearer picture of the whole path before we take the first step.

But here's what's true: you cannot know exactly what it will take to reach the new level until you've already done it. No amount of experience, knowledge, or planning eliminates the unexpected variables and the detours. No one gets the straight line from point A to point B. The messy, tangled path isn't a sign something is wrong. It's the feature of reaching for something new.

And the external permission you've been waiting for? You can give that to yourself. You always could. The longer you wait for it to come from somewhere else, the heavier the dream gets — not because it's wrong, not because it's too late, but because it's meant to be in motion.

No amount of strategy can make up for a lack of self-trust. And no external invitation will ever replace your internal knowing.

You Are Not Behind. You Are at the Edge.

I want you to drop any language you're carrying around being behind. Because behind is made up.

Behind what, exactly? Behind an ideal version of a timeline you created in your head? Behind someone else's path? Behind a finish line you keep moving further out?

Change the frame. You are not behind. You are at the edge. The ideal led you here. The person who did it first is proof it can be done. Now is the perfect time — because now is when you are.

What I see in the best coaching sessions is this: no time spent making a missed result mean something terrible. No spiraling over what should have gone differently. Instead: clarity about the gaps so they can be filled, celebration of the wins so they can be doubled down on, strategic decisions followed by action followed by honest evaluation. Real traction. No drama.

That's what claiming looks like. Not perfection. Not polish. Forward motion fueled by clarity and conviction.

What Changes When You Claim

When you stop chasing and start claiming, the whole orientation shifts.

You stop rewriting your website and start writing your book. You stop tweaking offers and start crafting your keynote. You stop playing whack-a-mole with your calendar and start leading your business like the CEO you are.

You stop waiting to feel ready. You stop waiting for the path to be clear. You stop waiting for someone to give you permission you've always had the authority to grant yourself.

And the most important thing: you don't become someone new. You remember who you were before fear dressed itself up as productivity.

Key Takeaways.

  • Eventually isn't a strategy. The dream that keeps tapping your shoulder is already telling you something.
  • Claiming your next level means deciding it's already yours — and becoming the person who brings it to life.
  • You will not know exactly what it takes until you've done it. No one gets the straight line. The path is the feature, not a flaw.
  • No external invitation will replace your internal knowing. The permission you're waiting for? You can give it to yourself.
  • You are not behind. You are at the edge. That edge is yours.

Hold the pen. Take the mic. Pick up the reins. Your calling isn't waiting for you to be ready. It's waiting for you to decide.
