Book Two ยท Faith & Devotional
Trust.
Surrender.
Obey.
Faith Lessons from My Dogs
A tender, honest, and heart-opening collection of 47 devotionals inspired by life with rescue dogs Laney and Marie โ and the God who used them to teach it all.
This book was born because of a dog
who was sent on a mission.
Laney came into my life on July 1, 2018, as a foster dog. My second one. It took me several weeks to admit what she already knew: she was mine. She is half the inspiration for this book, its star character, and the living proof of every lesson within it. She taught me what unconditional love really means, both the giving and the receiving of it.
On May 18, 2026, my sweet girl went home โ quickly, peacefully, and far too soon. But I know she was sent from heaven on a mission to change my life, and she accomplished that, full stop.
About the Book
A Devotional Journey with Dogs, Faith & Everyday Grace
This isn't just a devotional. It's a collection of 47 stories that walk with you โ through healing, transition, or simply the quiet search for connection.
Inspired by life with rescue dogs, Trust. Surrender. Obey. was born from moments of failure, faith, and the soft whispers of grace that followed.
It's for the faithful and the flawed, the certain and the questioning. For those learning to let go, listen, and love deeper โ because of, not in spite of, what life has held.
What You'll Find Inside
"You don't need to be perfect to be loved.
You don't need to have it all together
to be found."
Trust. Surrender. Obey. wasn't written from a mountaintop โ it was written from the messy middle of faith, fear, failure, and forgiveness. These stories aren't about dogs. They're about what the dogs revealed.

Introducing Laney & Marie
Laney and Marie are more than rescue dogs โ they're real-life devotionals. Their stories mirror the journey of the book: from fear to trust, from survival to surrender, from separation to belonging.
Laney
Laney came to me first โ young, bright-eyed, and ready to love before I was ready to admit she was mine. She gave the best full-body hugs, held my hand on long drives, and never once met a squirrel she didn't intend to catch. She is the reason this book exists.
Laney passed away on May 18, 2026 โ quickly and peacefully, before she could suffer. Every story in this book that carries her name is a true one. She is not gone. She is just ahead of me.
Marie
Marie is Laney's birth mom, and Laney was her baby too. She came to us having lived a lot of life before she got here โ feral, guarded, don't-even-look-at-me levels of untrusting. She had earned every wall she built.
Marie taught me unconditional trust.
Slowly, quietly, on her own terms, she let us in. And once she did, there was no going back. The dog who once wouldn't hold eye contact now asks you to stare into her eyes and kiss her face. Her transformation is the book. Her story is the proof.
She is still here, still teaching, still becoming.
Unlikely Sisters
Laney came first โ young, scared, still figuring out the world. Marie came months later, older and more guarded. I knew they were connected. Marie is Laney's birth mom. I didn't get the answers I expected. But I gained something better: a deeper understanding of love, loyalty, and resilience.
Today, they nap side by side and share a bond rooted in something deeper than circumstance.
Two rescues. Two stories. One redemption arc I never saw coming.

What People Are Saying
This book is full of gentle reminders to find God's love and grace all around us. It made me laugh, it brought me to tears, and with each story it left me thinking about how God works in the most unassuming ways to bring us closer to Him.
You don't need to be a dog owner to be drawn into Dawn's powerful storytelling. She has a gift with words that make you feel like you are right there with her โ and then, in one sentence, it becomes about God and breaks down the walls around your heart.
A beautiful heartwarming and insightful book. This book gives hope to anyone โ human or animal โ who feels alone or unworthy of love. It is proof that patience, faith and love can work miracles. A must read.
God and dogs! He understands us and pursues us while dogs are our earthly, trusted companions who share our hearts. Dawn eloquently shares how dogs with all their intuition can lead us right where God wants us.

Laney Angel
She was my second foster dog. I took several weeks to admit she was mine, but she knew it from the beginning.
She is the star of this book, the start of every good change in my life, and the most complete teacher of unconditional love I have ever known. She opened my heart in a way it had never been opened before. She is half the reason I kept writing.
Laney passed away on May 18, 2026 โ in an instant, without suffering. I am grateful for that, even as my heart carries the weight of her absence. She leaves herself behind in Marie, in this book, and in every room of our home.
She accomplished it completely.
And I cannot wait to see her when it is my time.
Look over me, Laney.
Your mission is not over.
She Left Her Whole Heart
A short book written two days after losing Laney. Told in two voices โ hers and mine. For anyone who has loved something with four legs and been told they shouldn't grieve quite so much. $8. Half benefits Take Paws Rescue.
